Some weeks ago I attended the Hepburn Season at the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield, and spent a sophisticated evening of film watching Katharine Hepburn, Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor in the camp classic ‘Suddenly Last Summer’ by Tennessee Williams. ‘Mother’s little holiday’ – the sequel
On extremely rare occasions film sequels are better than their predecessor. The only three that immediately spring to mind are ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ ; ‘Addams’ Family Value’ (thanks to Joan Cusack playing the insane nanny Debbie) and ‘The Godfather Part 2’. While some people claim that ‘Aliens’ is better than ‘Alien’ I don’t agree. ‘Alien’ is a vampire movie on a spaceship and is all the more tense and nailbiting as a result. ‘Aliens’ is an action film in space. ‘Prick up your ears’
A nifty way to catch full length films on Youtube is to use Google Translate to find out the Spanish translation of the film title that you want to watch. The film companies don’t seem to check these as much, so they are available for longer. Free and online.
This evening I saw ‘Susurros en tus oidos’, which is the Spanish language title of the 1987 English film ‘Prick up your ears’ – the biopic of famed English playwright Joe Orton, who in 1967 was bludgeoned to death with a hammer, by his long-term lover Kenneth Halliwell. So far, so grim.

Absolutely Fabulous – well I wasn’t expecting Chekhov, now was I, sweetie?
Last night I went to see ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ in the Cineworld on Parnell Street. The ticket cost 7.90 Euro. Which was a pleasant surprise, as every other time I have been to that cinema, in recent months the price for entry has been 12.50Euro. Must be an early-in-the-week price.
