Visitors arrived from the hometown yesterday, so an itinerary was required. It was just a day-trip so this was not too taxing a proposition. With my explorations of Dublin to date this year, I had a bank of options to choose from. Continue reading The Revolution will not be ropy

Theatre review: ‘RIOT’

The show I attended at the Spiegeltent in Merrion Square, this evening was called ‘RIOT’. A headline show for the next week at the Dublin Fringe Festival. Continue reading Theatre review: ‘RIOT’

I want to ride my bicycle

Having lived for decades in Amsterdam, I considered myself a bit of a cycling connoisseur. The bike-path network in the Netherlands is vast. And hopping on your two wheeler is the fastest, cheapest and most efficient means of getting to pretty much any destination in the city (I once had a job where it took fifteen minutes to reach by bike, but thirty minutes by public transport). As a result everyone cycles – from the very young to the very old. Although the site of a baby strapped onto the handlebars as the parent whizzes by is still a sight that gives me shivers. My cheatin’ heart

Yesterday after work I alighted from the bus – as I always do – at the top of O’Connell Street. Instead of taking a left and heading home, I glanced surreptitiously over both shoulders and swung a right on Parnell Street. Continue reading My cheatin’ heart

Backstage Bart

50 Shades of Greystones
After the wardrobe malfunction during Thursday’s performance, on Friday after work I was a man on a mission. My mission – which I had no choice but to accept – was to acquire pale blue underpants that matched my overalls. Therefore if my trousers split again, then at least I would be colour coordinated. Continue reading 50 Shades of Greystones
Beyonce at the B&B
Recently I have been getting the 8.30 bus in the morning, instead of the 8.15. It gets me to my desk by 9.10 which is still in the vicinity of on-time. However as my boss never rocks up until 9.30, I have taken the unilateral decision that an extra fifteen minutes in my pit, in the morning is good for my health, and that I am going to avail of this extra time.
