The strange, troubling world of the heterosexual

bus
Imagine a bus journey to a suburban office park in the morning.

Imagine the passengers being transported to their dreary workplaces.

Imagine seeing the same faces day after day, wondering who they are. And what motivates them.

Then imagine that the portly gentleman with the tattooed lower leg , whom you have never acknowledged, is sitting right behind you chatting to one of his colleagues.

Imagine the conversation they have.

Actually don’t imagine that conversation – I’m going to tell you about it.

A suburb without pity.

Sbrba

It was a late night and the quality of sleep enjoyed was somewhat patchy. That’s as a consequence of last night being tech and dress rehearsal for ‘Miss Julie’ which begins in the Pearse Centre today and runs until Saturday.

As a result I slept in late, this morning. Not by much – only by about 15 minutes. The speed with which I did my morning ablutions was impressive. Continue reading A suburb without pity.

A whole new world of Upstairs/Downstairs

bus
The tram network in Dublin is called the Luas. It currently comprises of two lines – the Green Line from Leopardstown to Saint Stephen’s Green is also known as the Posh Line – well to me anyway; and the Red Line which goes from Tallaght to the Point and is also known as the Scary Line. When these lines opened twelve years ago, whatever planning genius that designed them, decided to create them as two completely separate lines which never interconnect.

Beyonce at the B&B

Recently I have been getting the 8.30 bus in the morning, instead of the 8.15. It gets me to my desk by 9.10 which is still in the vicinity of on-time. The 3 stooges

My daily sojourn to work, on the big yellow bus takes on average forty minutes.

As more regular readers, of my barely read blog can attest, I occasionally discuss the fellow travellers on my daily journey. Not out of any sense of malice or obsessive interest in them. It’s more to do with the fact that earlier in the week my life involves transport to work, work, transport from work and evenings home alone. Continue reading The 3 stooges

I stink

My morning routine varies very rarely. Both my alarms go off at 7.25am. I hit the snooze button for ten minutes and lie in my pit feeling sorry for myself until 7.35am, at which point I jump out of bed, rush to the shower, wash, brush my teeth, apply some anti-perspirant and moisturise (this is an important thing for men of a certain age to always remember to do – those wrinkles don’t fully disappear even when my face is at rest any more). At 7.50 I leave the house and take a brisk walk to my bus-stop. I arrive at the stop at 8.10 and five minutes later we depart – with me saying an inner prayer that Beyonce’s mum won’t take agin me en route to work today. Continue reading I stink
