There is a general election in three week’s time. Now I still haven’t installed any digital connection in my recently acquired televsion set, so it has taken the place of the IKEA table – lurking in the corner judging me for my procrastination in getting it hooked up. As a result I am not watching any TV news so my current affairs knowledge is limited to http://www.thejournal.ie website. And there have been rumblings on there about the vote for the past several weeks. Continue reading Keeping the world safe for democracy

Committee member
I was in a drama group for several years in Amsterdam.
I never went to an AGM or a committee meeting.
I am a supernaturally lazy person when it comes to administration.
I was worried that I would be assigned responsibilities.
Dodged a bullet there.
This evening I went to a commitay meeting.
I am now officially a co-ordinatrix.
Oh Murphy, you big fool.
Just joking, I will fulfill my duties as a responsible, mature adult.
I may grow to love this role.
Oh Murphy.
Lights, camera, action
I’m having a busy week. ‘So am I’, replies everybody on the grind on the 9 to 5, or anyone who has children or other people to take care of. So my busyness is not anything noteworthy – it’s more of an on-going series of after-work evening appointments designed to keep me from my living room with my customary bucket of tea, a couple of fruit shortcake biccies and a book. And the Academy Award goes to …
This evening I will be going to see ‘Spotlight’ in the cinema. My 2nd cinema trip in a week. Since I’ve come home I have been a far more avid cinema attendee than in previous years. Now it’s not that Amsterdam lacks choice in English language cinema – unlike some of its larger neighbours like France or Germany, English language films are not dubbed into Dutch. With the exception of children’s films they are screened in the original language and subtitled. And there are plenty of English language films on offer. Perhaps it was the subtitling that put me off from going to the movies. Although it hardly seems like an adequate reason. It’s slightly distracting sure, but hardly a dealbreaker. And being able to buy a beer to watch with the film was an appealing bonus. Continue reading And the Academy Award goes to …
A life less nerdish
I wear spectacles, and have done since the age of 6 – originally the free ones with the plastic brown frames. I dress respectably /conservatively, and I am generally rather polite when speaking. Basically I have never been a ‘cool’ person.

A day alone
I woke up in the suburbs of Limerick, this January morn feeling happy. I had a day of activity planned. That’s the beauty of suburban Limerick (or suburban anywhere I suppose). If you want interesting times and experiences, then you need to plan them.
My day’s activities were relatively modest. Continue reading A day alone
Go west, life is peaceful there
I am clearly in a Village People state of mind, with the 2nd post in a row borrowing from their oeuvre.
After the amazing concert last night, work was a dreary mess today. I found it quite the struggle to muster up any enthusiasm for remotely moving medication from point A to point B. But as I am a highly motivated careerist, I struggled through. Continue reading Go west, life is peaceful there
Young man, there’s no need to feel down…
Tonight I went to see Villagers in Vicar Street in Dublin.
This is an Irish band that I associate with Amsterdam. Continue reading Young man, there’s no need to feel down…
The 7th circle of hell
This evening I am going to IKEA to finally sort out the unresolved table situation at home.
As avid readers of this blog will know (all 7 of you) I purchased a table some weeks ago. A table for the vacant corner of my sitting room, on which I will place my laptop and will use to pen my ramblings. Continue reading The 7th circle of hell
4 blueys for a score?
Tonight I had a director’s workshop to get some pointers for the play I am going to direct at the end of next month. Basically I want to learn how to be despotic and tyrannical. I guess I will have to try harder as rage and hysteria does not come that easily to me. It was enjoyable and I gained some good tips I hope. Continue reading 4 blueys for a score?
