Monday usually passes in a blur of blah. The weekend just gone is like a fleeting dream that’s been instantly forgotten. The coming weekend is far out of reach. The best policy is to hunker down, stay quiet, get a nice meal for dinner and bide your time. Continue reading Snakes on a plane? Oh no. It’s drunks on a bus

Hugh Lane Gallery
After rehearsal today, a fellow thesp and I took a stroll to O’Connell Street to check out the dungeon of a bar, as a potential performance space. I say dungeon, whereas I ought to be saying ‘downstairs bar area’. Quite a pleasant place -seats about 75, tastefully appointed. My concern was the bar upstairs and its wooden floors. Being a veteran of living upstairs from bars, I am concious of sound. The space has a definite potential though. Continue reading Hugh Lane Gallery
May 21st, 2015

May 22nd 2015 was a big day.
It was my sister’s birthday – this is a yearly event, but the date remains the same. Funny how that works. The deeds of transfer for my flat sale in Amsterdam, were exchanging on that date. And Ireland was voting on whether marriage was meant for Adam and Steve, as well as Adam and Eve. Continue reading May 21st, 2015
All across the world, in every nation
This evening was spent pondering.
Not about the meaning of life. Or what I can do on a personal level to combat climate change. Not even a rumination on how to address the homelessness crisis in Dublin. Oh no. I am far more shallow than all that. Continue reading All across the world, in every nation
Sweaty Jim

Fan letter to Sinead O’Connor
I love Sinead O’Connor because of her beautiful voice and her anger.

Some people regard her in 2016 as a barely more than a 1-hit wonder artist, but that’s overlooking the fact that for almost 30 years she has been releasing interesting, challenging work – from pop and rock all the way through to reggae, gospel, Irish traditional music. Some of this is obscure but you always get the impression that she is sincere in what she is saying (even if her motivations may sometimes be clouded by her demons).

Gala awards

I’ve already described my time as a volunteer at the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival in detail. So the vast readership of this blog (all 23 of you) may be a bit sick of my babbling about the gazillions of plays that I have seen over the past fortnight. Continue reading Gala awards
No jacket required
It was an early start to my Sunday – well when I say early I don’t meant the horrific early of a schoolday. But I had a rehearsal. Continue reading No jacket required
